About Us

CHRIST CHURCH SWANLAND is a partnership between the United Reformed and Methodist Churches although people from other denominations can be found in the congregation. The two congregations came together in 1981 using the United Reformed Church building. The church is a Fairtrade Church and is part of the URC Hull Area Team Ministry (see Links page for websites of other Team churches) and the Methodist Hull (Centre and West) Circuit.  The Revd Ann Rigby-Jones of the Methodist Church is looking after the pastoral needs of Swanland (see Contacts page). The United Reformed Church has appointed Mrs Val Morrison as Synod
Companion for the Hull URC Team Ministry.

Christ Church is located by the pond in the centre of the village of Swanland in the East Riding of Yorkshire. There has been worship on the site since 1693 but the present building dates from 1803. Various modifications and alterations have taken place over the years.

Because of the Coronavirus emergency and the requirement for not more than two people to gather together, all worship is suspended until further notice.

On Sunday there is Morning Worship at 10.30 am with Communion usually celebrated one Sunday each month. We use the hymn books "Singing the Faith", "Hymns & Psalms" or "Songs of Fellowship" and our Bible is the "Good News" version. Coffee is served after the service. Evening services are either a monthly meditative service in Swanland (on the 2nd Sunday) or are those organised elsewhere by and for the Hull (Centre & West) Methodist Circuit. Contact the Church Secretary to obtain dates and locations for these. One a quarter there is usually a URC Hull Area Team Service at 10.30 am at one of the Team churches. Details of Sunday Services for the next five weeks are shown on this website.

Because of the Coronavirus emergency all Church activities are suspended until further notice.

On Wednesdays (in term time) and on Saturdays from 10 am to 12 noon there is a Coffee Morning in the hall providing an opportunity for people to meet together and all are welcome. The Wednesday Coffee Morning is followed by a Lunch Club for elderly residents. See the Lunch Club page for full details.

For young people there is a Youth Group meeting on Friday in term time only. Full details on the Young People & Families' page.

Full information of all Church services and activities can be obtained by getting in touch with the Church Secretary. A warm welcome awaits all who come to our Church. There is plenty of free parking in front of the building and nearby.

Community Work

Christ Church is the donation point for all of Swanland for the The Trussell Trust's Hull Food Bank (see News page). Gifts of food can be brought to either of the Coffee Mornings. The church also supports the work of The Leprosy Mission with many church members having collection boxes. At the Autumn Church Meeting, members select a charity to be supported by fund raising events over the Christmas period (see News page).

Because of the Coronavirus emergency and church being shut, gifts of food for the Hull Food Bank are not being received. The Food Bank would like support by people donating money so they can buy groceries etc that are required. If you wish to do this, donations can be made via the Hull Food Bank website https://hull.foodbank.org.uk/give-help/

As might be expected the church is available for weddings and funerals and contact should be made with the Church Secretary. The church can accommodate 80-90 people downstairs and 50 upstairs. The church is less than 50 mtrs from Swanland Village Hall (see Links page) which can host a wedding reception or other gathering.

Swanland Day Nursery

The North Vestry is used by Swanland Day Nursery as a pre-school facility and a before and after school club for children of 2 to 11 years. See Contacts page.
